Developments
Eli had his first haircut! Yes, finally, the baby mullet was trimmed. He cried the whole time, but the barber was very skilled with uncooperative little boys and did a great job in record time.
Eli’s vocabulary keeps growing; he’s getting easier to understand without translation, and he’s making more sentences.
His major recent motor development was learning how to jump, a skill he has been working on for a while. He finally figured out how to get both feet off the ground, which has now become part of his after-bath routine. He has also learned how to do a pretty smooth summersault.
He’s becoming pretty handy with a mixing spoon, and is now chief stirrer and sifter for all (not too frequent) baking endeavors.
Adventures
Our big adventure was a train trip to Florida to visit Eli’s great grandmother, great aunt, great uncle, and cousins. Grandma & Grandpa Ed flew down to join for the weekend. The train ride (without a sleeper car) wasn’t the most restful night of sleep we’ve had, but Eli did eventually fall asleep and enjoyed riding on the train. In Florida, Eli got to watch daddy and his uncle and cousin run the annual 15k race. He also got to go to the zoo and ride on a water taxi (very exciting – he has been asking to ride on a boat again). It was also his daddy’s birthday, so Eli had fun singing Happy Birthday and eating the giant cookie cake his great aunt baked.
In other travels, we all took a day trip up to New York the Saturday before we went to Florida. We got there bright and early and got bagels to eat in Central Park while we waited for the Children’s Museum to open. Eli had fun at the museum, and then we had lunch at a pizza place nearby. He really enjoyed riding the NY subways, and then slept while we walked around Rockerfeller Center and Times Square.
Other adventures included his friend Eddie’s second birthday party and a few snowy days. Unfortunately we never more than a couple inches of good snow, although his daycare closed once for an icy mix so Eli got to spend the day with Nana & Grandpa.
